In October 2024 we switched on 210 solar panels on the roof of OneStonegrove in Edgware, Barnet. It’s the largest charity-owned solar installation in London.
What our solar panels did in a year
From November 2025 to October 2026, our solar panels:
- made 72,300 kWh of electricity, twice as much as the whole building used. That’s enough for about 25 homes for a year
- gave us 56% of the electricity we used, and 79% in June
- saved us about £6,000 on our electricity bills
- sold 52,200 kWh of spare electricity, earning us about £5,700
What happens to spare energy?
On sunny days we make more electricity than we need, and we sell what’s left. Right now it goes to Octopus Energy business customers, through Younity.
We’re also part of Younity’s Community Power Club. Soon, local households and organisations will be able to join it and share in the benefits of our panels. Watch this space.
What it means for the community
Together, the savings and sales are worth about £11,700 a year. Every pound goes back into OneStonegrove. It helps keep our doors open and our free activities free.
Who made it happen
Our solar panels were funded by City Bridge Foundation, Barnet Council and the Greater London Authority’s London Community Energy Fund. Thank you for having faith in us, and for understanding what we were trying to do.
They were installed by R-ECO, a workers’ co-operative that installs renewable energy for homes, businesses and communities.
