Food Project Coordinator
Rachel
Who are you?
I am an advocate for creating awareness around ADHD and how it impacts people’s lives. I believe it’s much like a superpower that just makes you excitable! I am also currently doing my PHD in Digital Marketing and am writing a piece on gangs in Harrow around serious misconceptions on violence in the area. The violence stems from inequalities that tie into food inequalities, hence why a lot of my work also revolves around food. My Yard, the community enterprise I founded, reduces food waste by rescuing food from surplus and shares it with those most in need locally via community cafes and surplus food markets on a free or pay as you feel basis. I have used this network alongside connections at Stonegrove to continue to do the work on the ground. I believe food connects people and when you give someone a meal that’s how you build relationships. It’s like giving a bunch of flowers. You are rescuing the planet, building relationships and getting to know people on a deeper level.

What do you do?
Alongside the Felix project and local supermarkets, I sort food and redistribute this to the local area mostly on the Grange Park Estate. Many will give me a wish list and I endeavour to suit their alimentary needs and I personalise every single pack. In return, the residents tell me how it has helped them that week. Some weeks for our residents are harder than others and I have listened to their stories and it has helped me build a picture of their lives and the lives of those around them.

Why do you love what you do?
I love honesty and I love people. There is no room for hate if you understand people.
