Position: Resident Trustee
Location: OneStonegrove, 5 Hayling Way, Edgware HA8 8BN
Remuneration: The Trustee role is a voluntary position. Out of pocket expenses will be covered.
Hours: Our Trustee meetings are quarterly. Most Trustees also attend a subgroup of the board, which also meet quarterly. You will need to invest enough time to understand the charity and our activities and read and comment on meeting papers. There are various other ways to get involved as a Trustee between meetings.
Length of commitment: The term of office for a Trustee is initially three years. After that you can, if you choose, stand for a further three years, so six years in total. We now allow a third and final term in exceptional circumstances, which happened with two Trustees in 2020.
What will you be doing?
As a Trustee, you will be responsible for ensuring that we meet our charitable vision and mission and that we fulfil all of our legal responsibilities under charity and company law. We work as a team, so this does not mean that you need to have knowledge and experience in these areas to join us – you just need to be interested in the role and be willing to learn. We will provide all of the training and support that you require to develop into the role.
You will work closely with the other Trustees, the CEO and other team members, to ensure that we continue to develop and grow to meet the needs of local residents and create the biggest possible impact
As a Trustee, you will make an invaluable contribution to the organisation holding management to account regarding all the services and provisions at the centre ensuring they are creating a positive and necessary impact on our residents. Being a trustee is more than just a role, it is an opportunity to help shape a small charity like ours for the better. You will be required to attend board meetings and work closely with the CEO to ensure the charitable aims of the Trust are met.
Each of our Trustees brings different skills, experiences and perspectives to our work. We have identified some specific areas of knowledge and experience that would help us to develop our work over the coming years, but mostly need people who care, and who will put in the time to learn about our charity and help us to move forwards.
Some specific areas of expertise we would welcome:
- Accountancy and financial.
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Sales & marketing.
We are particularly keen to speak to candidates who have different perspectives. The estate is made of different landlord and housing tenures, and we are keen for our Board to truly reflect this landscape. You will have a keen interest in learning, good networking skills, and the ability to work as part of a team and be a good communicator.

Bringing your professional expertise to the role will help us continue to develop and encourage successful initiatives. Your expertise will strengthen the organisation and will help identify new opportunities for development based on need. The work you will do with the other Trustees will have a long-lasting impact not just on the charity, but on the residents who live on the estate.

In my time with the trust, we have grown from one team member to our current position, where we now have 11 team members, and we have some exciting plans for the future.

Stage 2: Informal chat and guided tour of the building
After we shortlist candidates, Gus, our CEO, will then get in touch with you for an informal chat so you can learn more about the role and the charity. You will also be invited to tour the building to learn more about our partners and services.
Stage 3: Interview with CEO and Trustees
All candidates will receive standard interview questions in advance and will be able to respond to the questions in their own time. Interviews will take place on the 11th December.
We will be holding three information sessions that will further expand your knowledge of the charity and our mission, meet staff and CEO in person and ask questions alongside some light refreshments.
